Yr 9 Cooperative Slideshow

Students were given a copy of the Slide Show task sheet. They were being assessed on their group slide show and how well they worked cooperatively. This learning task taught students a lot about how to effectively work as a team, how to delegate and for one group what to do when you are left to do it all! Students had marks deducted for copy and pasting and making each slide to wordy. The purpose of our slide shows are to compliment an oral presentation and not provide viewers with a lot of reading. Some of the slides in the two slide shows met this criteria and some need tweaking to make the grade.

Yr 9 and Yr 10 Film Studies

In term three we studied two films, the Yr 9's viewed 'Cool Runnings' and the Yr 10's viewed 'Rabbit Proof Fence'. Students were given the opportunity to view and then discuss characters, themes and the plot of each film. The Yr 9's unit was an Integrated unit with PE, Science and Maths all looking at different elements from the film, which ultimately resulted in students going to Rotorua to the luge (http://www.skyline.co.nz/rotorua/ssr_luge/). Learning Maps...

These are a selection of our learning maps. Our learning maps are reflective and all about showing the tools we are using for learning. We will add to these as the year goes on and see how our learning tools change, stay the same or no longer apply.

Embracing Term One 2016!

What a wonderful summer break filled with long sunny days creating memories and feeling blessed, I am ready to embrace term One, 2016. I have spent several long days in my classroom prior to my classes of 2016 arriving creating an inviting learning space. My intention this year is to post frequently updating our class blog to showcase the wonderful learning that happens in C16. I am looking forward to starting the year with Learning Maps and developing these throughout the year as my learners evolve! My word this year is 'mindfulness' and I can't wait to start developing this myself and with my students, and it all starts by embracing the school year!
